Obituary for Yvonne Brennan

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Yvonne Brennan on September 16, 2022. Yvonne lived a great, long life, having just turned 90 this past July.

She was pre-deceased by her husband; Gordon Brennan, her son-in-law; Kim Coppell, and her four siblings; Arthur Lodge, Marguerite Brissette, Emile Lodge, and Albert Lodge.

She is survived by her sister; Irene Dupras; her children; Violet Palmer (Colin Palmer), Christine Ross, Allan Ross (Kathy Ross), Brenda Coppell, and Brian Ross, her five grandchildren; Allison Toth (Darrell Toth), Cara Gallagher (Shawn Gallagher), Aaron Ross, Caitlin Coppell (Brian Humphries), and Devon Coppell, and her four great-grandchildren; Ronin Toth, Brooke Toth, Faith Gallagher, and Charlotte Gallagher.

Yvonne and Gordon spent many happy years living in their Lac du Bonnet home. She was an avid gardener and regularly sent the grandkids home with fresh vegetables. Grandma could often be found at her sewing machine making a variety of clothing for her grandchildren and those in need. Her grandchildren were blessed to have a grandmother who knit them sweaters, mitts, hats, and scarves which they wore with great pride.

Yvonne was well known at her apartment complex for taking daily walks and chatting with anyone she met along the way. She spent many enjoyable Monday afternoons with friends at the Legion Dance Club. Yvonne enjoyed participating in all the social activities in her block, as well as the regular breakfast dates with her girlfriends. The pandemic was particularly hard for someone as social as Yvonne, but she continued to make efforts to connect regularly with her friends and family.

Yvonne was a very generous and deeply caring woman. She loved to cook and was always bringing hot meals to her friends and anyone she knew was ill or alone. She donated warm clothing and blankets for the homeless each winter and charitably supported many other causes. Mom was a loyal friend who was quick to lend a helping hand. Her faith was important to her, and she kept many in her prayers each night.

Mom was a fiercely independent person all her life, rarely asking others for help. Her independence kept her physically well and mentally sharp. She was still living on her own, driving her car, and doing her own groceries at the age of 90.

Mom loved her family with all her heart and was incredibly proud of all their accomplishments. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

A memorial service will take place at St Bernadette’s Parish, 820 Cottonwood Rd on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow; then reception at E.J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
