Obituary for Wilma (Willie) Hardy McDonald (Stark)

On March 20,2023, Wilma our Mom and Nana peacefully passed away surrounded by her families love.
She will be deeply missed by her two daughters Karen (John) and Leah, and her three grandchildren Nicole, Ryan, and Brady. She leaves behind her sister Dorothy (Norm), Sister in-law Lori and many nieces and nephews as well as lifelong friends who she always considered extended family.

Her husband Edward (Ed), brother Gordon, parents Gordon and Mary and her mother and father in-law Victoria and Amede will meet her in a place where there is no more pain and struggle. Mom can once again dance with dad and with each breath now feel comfort.

As her daughters both Karen and Leah always felt her love and support and they know she will continue to be by their side and in their hearts every minute, of every hour, of every day. She was not only their mom but their best friend, confidant, and a wonderful Nana to their children.

Her grandchildren were her greatest joy. From the day they arrived she helped raise them and care for them, it was her constant love and compassion that helped mold them into the wonderful adults they are today. She attended all their sports, activities, graduations, and ceremonies of achievement with pride and admiration. She cherished every moment with them.

Willie grew up in St Vital and lived on Stranmillis Ave and visited the family farm in Ashern Manitoba as a child and then in later years on The Glen as an adult. She had many careers of which some included a short term with MTS, Eaton’s downtown, Town & Country, Boes, Warehouse One and the one she was most proud of Global Television.

The family lived on The Glen for 50 years and after her husband Ed passed, she filled her days traveling with her siblings and their spouses. On her return she would often diarize her trips by scrap booking photos and souvenirs into long lasting memories to share. She loved adventure but she also enjoyed gardening and puttering around in her backyard only to admire the beautiful green space she kept, she had her father’s green thumb. Her hobbies included reading, drawing, and writing and along with her Christmas village that she created, she wrote stories year after year including the people in our lives as the characters in her stories.

Our family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and health care professionals who cared for her at St Boniface Hospital. They treated her with love and dignity.

Her Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at E.J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
