Obituary for William Thomas Regan

William Thomas Regan
1926-2021

The family is deeply saddened with the passing of our dear Uncle and friend to many, Bill Regan, on February 2nd, 2021.

Uncle Bill had celebrated his 94th birthday June 1st and due to COVID restrictions he was driven from house to house to celebrate with each individual family throughout the day. He enjoyed the day so much.

William never married or had any children but considered his nieces and nephews his own children and celebrated all milestones of theirs and their children with them. He was always included in every family celebration or event.

He will be lovingly remembered by so many, especially Darlene and George (Daryla, Raquel), Gary and Joan (Kelly), Shawnee and Michael (Talia, Tecla, Turk), Gene and Margaret (Connor and Melina), Bill and Jane (Jonathon and Madison) and all the grandchildren Daryla and Scott (Adam, Nathon, James), Raquel and Dave, (Taras, Afton). As well as Rens den Hollander from Woudrichem Netherlands. (Laine, Tania, Lauren). Lynn and Roger Venasky from Thunder Bay (Kelly and Michael)

William served in active duty in the Second World War, was proud of his veteran status, and always entertained us with his many stories of his service.

After the army William worked in many different jobs with Manitoba Hydro, Econoway, Curtis Tire, Moore’s Taxi, and Rolling Spokes in Brandon where he lived for many years.

William also worked for a short while assisting drug testing officers testing high performance athletes with the CCES. He took this position very seriously and was very proud of his role.

He loved to watch sports especially baseball (fan of the Brandon Grey Owls) and hockey when one of the family was playing. He also played baseball in his early years.

William could fix anything and always had his box of tools available, so if needed, he was ready to help family and/or friends. Many times he was asked to assist with a project.

His mind was sharp right up until the end but unfortunately his body was not, battling diabetes, heart issues and severe arthritis which ultimately caused him constant pain, but that didn’t stop him from trying to get out to visit the casino, grocery store, bank and a family functions whenever he could. He so enjoyed taking family out to the casinos where he could treat them to dinners in the restaurants.

William’s last residence was at Villa Cabrini where he had many friends. He was waiting to get into Deer Lodge Center for his final years and was looking forward to driving his scooter through the halls meeting many of the veterans and sharing war stories.

Due to COVID 19 a final celebration will be held in his honor at a later date when we can include more people and all those near and dear to him in his life. He will then be laid to rest in Brookside cemetery with other veterans.

He is now reunited with his sisters and brothers and his special friend Mary.

Uncle Bill, you were so loved and will be missed but we will remember and tell your stories for many years to come.
