Obituary for William "Bill" Loewen

William (Bill) Loewen

It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of a very special man, Bill Loewen on Thursday, September 20, 2012.

Bill leaves to cherish his memory, his loving partner Pearl, his children Merv (Denise), Jackie, James, his granddaughters Melissa, Kelsi and Kara, his great-grandson Ryder, his siblings Bertha (Henry Nickel), John (Margaret), David (Marie), Betty (Marcel Vinck) and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Pearl?s son Robert (Diane) and their son Kayden. Bill was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Helena Loewen.

Bill was born on February 17, 1943 and was raised on the family farm in Stuartburn, MB. It was there that he acquired his strong work ethic. He left home at the age of 17 to move to Winnipeg where he remained until his passing. Bill spent most of his working life in the construction and real estate industries and retired in 2008.

Bill had many interests. He was passionate about golf and was a member of Pine Ridge Golf Club. He enjoyed travelling with his golf partners to try out the various courses. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching all sports especially hockey, football and golf. Bill was also an accomplished fisherman. His annual fishing trip to Nestor Falls was always a highlight. Many cribbage games were played and Bill?s competitive spirit always shone.

The most important thing in Bill?s life was his family. Pearl has many fond memories of their trips to Alberta, the States, Mexico and the Caribbean. He was always available to his children to provide assistance and advice and to lend an ear. He will be missed.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Czaykowski and Denise at CancerCare and the staff in the Palliative Care Program. We are also very grateful for all the phone calls, the visits, the support and assistance.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill?s memory to CancerCare Manitoba.

In keeping with Bill?s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating his life will be held on Monday, September 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St.
