Obituary for William (Bill) Lawrence King

.
At the age of 94, surrounded by his loving family Bill peacefully passed away.

He will be fondly remembered and loved forever by his wife Joanne; son Michael (Sharon); daughters Lisa (Duane), Sharon (Michael), Kerri (Shane); grandchildren Scott (Laura), Kera (David), Breanne (Cory), Harrisen (Lauren), Sharriden; and great grandchildren Mya, Charli, Javier, Bruno, and Rocco.

Bill, Dad, Gramps, Papa, or Little Grandpa was a man of simple pleasures, sarcastic wit and true stubbornness. His career path was varied and the basis of many stories. From telegraph carrier, to railway brakeman and finally long-time owner of a successful silk screen supply business. Most of his adult years were lived in Fort Garry where he raised Mike and Lisa and developed many life-long friendships. When he and Joanne decided to marry and found their forever home on a lake, he invariably said he would be there for the rest of his life, which he was. Bill was always very active running, golfing, inline skating and cycling well into his 80’s. Gramps and Gram’s home was the family “community centre” where there was lots of gatherings and all the grandkids learned to swim like fish.

Bill enjoyed travelling with Joanne to B.C. to spend time with Mike, Sharon and Bre, often taking along Scott and Kera for the fun of it. They also loved their journey each winter down to Florida for 28 years.

Truly a life well lived.

The family would like to thank the healthcare professionals that supported Bill through his long life and in particular those at Victoria General Hospital 5S and Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care in the last few weeks.

Based on Bill’s wishes a funeral will not take place. A family celebration of life will be held next spring.

“There isn’t a train I wouldn’t take, no matter where it’s going…”
