Obituary for Ursula Ingeborg Bertschinger (Beyer)

Ursula Bertschinger
(nee Beyer)
September 5, 1941 – June 13, 2022

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ursula Bertschinger on June 13, 2022 at the age of 80 years old.
Ursula was a loving mother to Mario (Tracy), Rico (Deneen), proud grandmother to Aaron, Brie & Breck. Also left to share their loss is her sister, Erica.

Ursula was predeceased by her loving husband, Emil, in 1988.

Ursula was born in Essen, Germany on September 5, 1941. She moved to Canada from Germany at the age of 18. Ursula chose Winnipeg because she had aunts, uncles and cousins already living here. Shortly after arriving in Winnipeg she enrolled in an English class, and this is where she met the love of her life and future husband, Emil. A few years after they married, they settled into St. Vital and raised their family.

Ursula was an avid sports fan, cheering on her two sons at their sporting events, (usually hockey). She was a loyal Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan as well as a Winnipeg Jets fan, and would never miss watching a game, unless it conflicted with her grandson, Aaron’s televised hockey games. His games always took precedent.

Ursula loved to travel and has many friends and family all over the world. This is how she developed a large following on Facebook. It started off to keep up with her family in Europe and her friends in Kenora, where she resided during the summer. This expanded to include many friends in Barbados and Florida where she spent her winters. Ursula also made many lifelong friends, in the various groups on Facebook she belonged to. Text Twist and The Eagle Chat Group were two of her favorites. Her sense of humour, kind words and quick wit will be missed by many.

Back in September Ursula celebrated her 80th birthday with close family and friends. A month later she suffered a stroke and a heart attack. Being the strong and determined woman she was, Ursula fought back for the last eight months to regain her independence.

The family would like to thank Pat Duke and Keanna Bronk, Ursula’s close friends, for their many visits and overall support before and during this difficult time.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at the Grace Hospital 4 South, for the care that was provided to Ursula in her last days. Thanks to the many friends, who reached out during these past eight months with cards and warm wishes.

A private service will be held by the family.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Ursula may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Friends and family are welcome to share stories and sign the online book of condolences at ejcoutu.ca.
