MERLINE JERRARD

It is with sadness our family announces the peaceful passing of Merline Jerrard, with family by her side, on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Vista Park Lodge.

As a young woman, Mom immigrated from Jamaica and chose Winnipeg to create a new life, and eventually establish her roots. Mom’s strength to persevere was grounded in her deep, unwavering faith in God. Her faith is how she navigated life’s challenges and uncertainties.

Mom put herself through nursing school, was later married, and raised her family in East Kildonan. She had a long career as a nurse and retired from Concordia Hospital.
Mom came from humble beginnings and made many sacrifices to raise her children. As a new Canadian, it was important she gave her children the many opportunities that she had never had. Mom loved to sew, garden, sing in the church choir, attend bible study and travel.

Whether you were family, a friend, neighbour, or co-worker, her faith and values were portrayed in every aspect of her life. As a member of St. Saviour’s Anglican Church, our family not only received generosity but Mom was in a position to be able to give back. She remained a giving and committed member until her passing and her legacy will continue through a gift she gave the church in 2016.

Mom is united in heaven with her husband John and her son Paul. Her loss will be felt deeply by her family and friends. She leaves to mourn daughters Denise (Scott), Michelle (Doyle), Paulette (Dean) and daughter-in-law Cheryl. Known as Grandma J, she will be lovingly remembered and adored by all of her grandchildren; Catherine, Meaghan, Samuel, Hannah, Jacob, Madelyn, Aidan, Jillian, Justine and Chad.

Funeral service will be held Friday, March 1 at St. Saviour’s Anglican Church 690 Munroe Ave. Winnipeg, MB at 10:30 am. Flowers are gratefully declined. Please consider making a donation to St. Saviour’s Anglican Church or a charity that helps support new Canadians.
