Obituary for Stephen Bahr

F. STEPHEN BAHR

1937 – 2019

Steve passed away peacefully on June 25, 2019, at the age of 81. During his lengthy hospital stay we never left his side.

Steve was a dedicated husband and father, always willing to do anything for us. He was our rock. He selflessly shared his gifts for the benefit of ourselves and others.

He had so many wonderful qualities. Our grandchildren describe him as kind-hearted, funny, gentle, generous, witty and honourable. His steady, quiet presence was calming and comforting. He always hugged us and said he loved us every time we said goodbye.

Steve had a quiet and enduring faith. In his early years at St. Gerard he used his woodworking skills to build our church’s giant cross and help create the altar. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

To provide for his family he was a Journeyman Machinist, working for the CNR his entire career. Outside of work he was self-taught in electronics, mechanics, woodworking and leather-crafting, and he patiently taught much of this to his children.

We have fond memories of all the adventures we shared on our family road trips and camping holidays. He loved riding his motorcycle and going on long road trips together all over Canada and the USA.

We are going to miss him very much: Betty, his beloved wife of 57 years; his children Stephen (Kristen), Jim, Valerie (Brett); grandchildren Daniel, Nicholas, Jack, Zachary and Jessica; and nephews John and Joey.

Fr. Janusz Maron will officiate at his Funeral Mass on Friday, July 5, at 11:00 am at St. Gerard Parish, 45 Foster Street, Winnipeg. There will be a reception after Mass in St. Gerard School gym (across the street) followed by burial at Green Acres Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his sons Stephen and Jim, his son-in-law Brett, and his grandsons Daniel, Nicholas, Jack and Zachary.

Thanks to Dr. Kotb, Jayne Kasian, NP, Alexis and all the nursing staff at CancerCare for their kind, compassionate, exceptional care and attention.
