Obituary for SHEILA ELIZABETH BEMISTER

SHEILA ELIZABETH BEMISTER

The Lord called Sheila home on July 23 to join her beloved husband Warren and son Patrick. She is survived by children Jonathon (Brenda), Andrew (Iris), Mary Louise (Richard), Bernard (Debbie), Timothy (Kathy) and Paul.

Born outside London Sheila spent her youth in Hertfordshire, Great Britain. Joining the war efforts led Sheila to serving with the RAF and while stationed on the coast of Coventry, she met a dashing Canadian her future husband. They were soon married and after liberation Sheila joined her husband to start a new life in Canada.

Sheila’s love for her family and loyalty remained a constant in her life and as a devout Catholic, she continually prayed for the well-being of her family and friends. Her faith was an integral comfort for her throughout her life and helped guide her sojourn.

Sheila loved being a mother to many and in addition to her children, she fostered and took care of any who were in need. Her creativity and innovation touched many: her home-cooked meals were anticipated with delight and while her handmade outfits weren’t always stylish, they warmed many. Spending summers at the cottage was a delight, devouring many books while sitting in the sunshine. She loved puzzles and wordplay, and could dispatch a crossword with finesse. She enjoyed travel throughout her life and took in so much of what this world has to offer.

Never one to sit idle, she relished participating and volunteering with Pregnancy Distress, Meals on Wheels, Deer Lodge, and spent countless hours knitting mittens that warmed many of hands within Siloam Mission.

Her absence will be profoundly felt by her children, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She leaves a hole in the hearts of her family. Her strength and enthusiasm have been passed on and she will be lovingly and long remembered. We will strive to live up to her example and expectation.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. Interment will follow the reception at Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sheila’s memory to Siloam Mission or L’Arche Winnipeg Inc.
