Obituary for Ronald Allen Meissner

RONALD ALLEN MEISSNER
March 13, 1948 – February 17, 2024

It is with love and profound sadness, but wonderful memories that we announce Ron’s passing at home with his loving wife by his side on February 17, 2024, following a courageous battle with cancer.

Remaining to forever cherish Ron’s memory are his loving wife Mandy; his brother Ken, nephew Richard, niece Darlene; sister-in-law Susan; sister Linda (Larry), nephews Jeff (Andrea) and Darryl (Christine); sister-in-law Maria (Tony), nephews George (Jennifer), John (Sonya), and many other cherished family and friends.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, father Roy and his mother Susan (nee Klassen); father-in-law Mirko, mother-in-law Stana, brother-in-law Mitch.

Ron developed a strong work ethic at a young age, he helped build his first rec room with his dad when he was 16 years old. After high school he started his lifelong career with CNR as a machinist while always working side jobs, building decks, fences and rec rooms for family and friends. As Ron honed his “Jack of all trades skills”, he liked to help everyone with whatever repairs they needed. When friends had problems, they would say, “Just call Ron”.

In 1995, Ron met Mandy, the love of his life. Ever the romantic they married in Hawaii in 2001.

Ron Retired from CNR after 35 years as a machinist at the age of 55. He then decided to attend RRC Polytech and he received his Red Seal Millwright ticket and worked out of Local 1443.

After retiring in 2004, Ron built a home in Grand Marais where, he and Mandy spent their summers. They were fortunate to spend the next 14 winters travelling through Mexico and the Southern U.S.

On behalf of Ron, his wife would like to express her sincere gratitude to Dr. Shantanu Banerji and his wonderful staff for the exceptional care, kindness, and friendship they provided Ron for the past six and a half years. She would also like to thank Palliative Care and his RN, his buddy Richard for all their compassionate care.

As per Ron’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, March 8, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.

As an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Ron’s name to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation in support of Dr. Shantanu Banerji cancer research, www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca, 204-787-4143.

Ron, we love you and
will keep you in our hearts forever.
