Obituary for ROLANDE CECILE GESWIN

ROLANDE CECILE GESWIN

Oct 22, 1924 – July 8, 2019

Rolande passed away suddenly at St. Boniface Hospital.

Left to cherish all the good memories are: her daughter Barbara and Rod Bennett with sons Elliott and Philip; daughter Jacqueline and Jack McEachern with daughter Michelle Boisselle and Brent Statham; stepdaughter Amanda and Shaun Gaudet and girls; grandson Charles Smith and soon to be wife Heather Hennessey, son of Rolande’s eldest daughter Patricia Ann Smith predeceased on September 18, 2011.

She was predeceased by her father Edouard Dumaine in June 5, 1977 and mother Marguerite Dumaine (Muloin) in May 5, 1992.

She grew up on the family farm in Ile-des-Chênes area and was a boarder right through high school at St. Joseph Collegiate in Winnipeg.

Rolande married William C Bates of Sandy Lake/Neepawa, MB and later resided in Carleton Place, ON and had their three girls.

Rolande’s career started with the Federal Government as a civil servant on February 6, 1960. Her retirement was September 12, 1986 where she rose to the position of Citizenship Examiner with the Secretary of State. As part of her duties she travelled throughout the province. To continue upgrading her personal skills she joined Toastmasters and took the Dale Carnegie course and several university courses.

She volunteered with the handicapped and went with a group to Lourdes, France and volunteered at a nursing home.

One of her main hobbies was playing bridge with the Fort Garry Bridge Club. Also, one of her favourite outings was going for family dinners and get togethers.

Unfortunately, in the last year Rolande was diagnosed with dementia and moved to Actionmarguerite St. Vital to have the everyday help that she needed.

The family would like to thank the special nurse at St. Boniface Hospital on the 4th Floor Family Medicine whose name is “Jay”. He was extremely caring and knowledgeable of mom’s medical condition.

The family would like to thank the nurses and care givers on the 2nd Floor at Actionmarguerite St. Vital who took good care of her.

Cremation has taken place and a gathering and graveside service will be held at Ile-des-Chênes Catholic Parish Cemetery at a later date, there will be notification in the paper.
