Obituary for Roland Albert Valcourt

Roland Valcourt

It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Roland Valcourt on Monday, September 9, 2019 at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface, aged 93 years.

Roland will be mourned and deeply missed by his wife, Lucette (Carroll), his children, Carole (Barrie Kreitz), Robert (Yolande Lafond), Jocelyne (Noel Currie) and Lynne; his grandchildren, Kellie, Lisa, Raymond, Janelle, Taylor and Morgan as well as 11 great grandchildren.

Roland was born and raised his family in St. Jean-Baptiste, MB where he owned and operated a lumber sales and home construction business. After closing down his business, he became town postmaster from which he retired after 25 years of service. A longtime Knight of Columbus, Roland was also a World War Two veteran and proud member of the local legion. Roland was also one of the founding members of the local volunteer fire brigade. Roland dedicated many years of public service as municipal councillor, school bus driver, as well as caller for the local bingo fundraiser. He was an avid sportsman throughout his life having played very competitive hockey and baseball which led to a number of provincial championships. He also enjoyed fishing, curling, and golfing which he played well into his 80’s. Roland also played a mean game of billiards. In his later years in Winnipeg he really enjoyed visits to the local legion for a few beers and games of pool with son Robert and numerous friends. Roland also greatly enjoyed raising and tending to his horses as well as a few chickens and rabbits in his backyard.

What was most outstanding about ‘Rolly’ was his “joie de vivre”, his perpetual smile and his genuine kindness to all family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

The family would like to thank the staff at Actionmarguerite St. Vital and St. Boniface for their loving and compassionate care of our Dad.

A private celebration of his life will be held by immediate family members.
