Obituary for Roland Lessard

Roland Lessard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Roland Lessard on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Foyer Valade surrounded by his family.

Born on November 28, 1925 in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, he is survived by his wife of 68 years, Anna (née Léger), his children, Philippe (Evelyne), Lorraine (Stan Lesk), Rachelle (Dale Jameson), Marc (Florence) and Georgette (Daniel Boyer); grandchildren Joël (Marie-Joëlle), Julia (Daniel), Cynthia, Micheline (Karl), Evan (Jenn), Bernard (Marianne), Patrick (Kateri), Derrick (Alanna), Lyndon (Chelsea), Mélanie (Natalie), Carolyne (James), Gilles (Ariane), Alexandre and Xavier; great-grandchildren Céleste, Renaud, Élise, Mackenzie, Alizée and Léonie. He is also survived by his sister Fernande Siemens, brother Odilas (Sirkka) and brother-in-law Raymond Lavigne. He was predeceased by his parents Jean-Baptiste and Octavie (née Fillion) Lessard, siblings: Léonie (Hector Schwatrz), Norman (Alma), Antonin, Léo (Rita), Hermance (Gérard Prairie), Yvonne (Joe Pelland), Lorette (Nick Ryback) Gertrude Lavigne, Éloi (Dorothée) and one grandchild Paul Lessard.

Roland was born and raised in Ste. Anne, Manitoba on his parents’ farm. He worked the lumber camps in Brokenhead and Wade, Ontario. He also worked construction in St. Boniface. In 1950 he married the love of his life, Anna Léger, and lived in St. Boniface, where he worked as a carpenter for 38 years at Taché Hospital. Father of 5 children, he loved spending time with his family, going on trips or to the cottage in Ste. Anne. He was a patient, humble, sensitive and hard-working man, always there for his family.

Adored by his grand-children, he loved making them laugh and was proud of all their accomplishments. In retirement, Roland and Anna spent 15 years square dancing in several retirement homes and schools throughout the province. Those were enjoyable years as Dad loved music and singing.

Dad, we will miss you. You were an exemplary father who taught us right from wrong, a good work ethic, self-respect and respect of others, through your generosity and wisdom. The family would like to thank Dr. José François for his availability and professionalism, Mélanie, Case Coordinator and all home care personnel who assisted in Dad’s care. The family would like to recognize the compassionate care provided by the staff at Foyer Valade.

A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at Précieux-Sang Church, 200 Kenny St., at 10:30 a.m.
