Obituary for Roger Raphael Vande Vyvere

Roger Raphael Vande Vyvere

July 1, 1926 ? October 23, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He completed his journey on earth and joined his wife in the loving arms of our Lord.

Roger was born and raised in St. Boniface where he attended Provencher School. He joined the Canadian National Railway, at the age of 16, to help his family after the sudden death of his father. He remained with the CNR until his retirement 41 Years later. He worked in the car shop at Symington Yards working his way up to Supervisor, and he so loved his time on the wrecking crew! Roger was a committed parishioner at Christ the King Church where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He spent many a winter?s day at the Heather and then the Fort Garry Curling Club as a member of the Night Hawks curling league. He loved golf, and during his retirement years he spent his time re-gripping, fixing, and building golf clubs, when not on the course with friends. Roger found the most enjoyment in one thing above all, and that was spending time with his family. He cherished his time at the family cottage on Bird Lake with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He often mused over the rock upon which he wrote, ?Dad loves Mom?.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Elaine (nee Ofremchuk) in 2001, and his brothers, Daniel and Camille. He leaves to mourn his loss his son, Wayne (Dawn), daughters, Valerie (Glen) Bergeron, Gail Vande Vyvere and Kimberley (Gerry) Hawkes, grandchildren, Jaimie (Warren) Law, Madisson and Ryley Vande Vyvere, Erin and Bryan Bergeron, Melissa, and Jeff MacCoy, Amelia, Emily, Matthew and Owen Hawkes, and great-grandchildren, Ty MacCoy, Kayd MacCoy-Antonio and Nolan Law. He is also survived by his sister, Simone Devodder, his brother, Jules (Carol) and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass celebrating Roger?s life will be held in St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Road on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior to mass.
