Obituary for Rick Cox

Rick Cox

It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Rick Cox on November 13, 2019 at the age of 65 years with his family by his side.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Katherine of 33 years, and his beloved daughters Lauren (Aaron) and Taylor (Peter.) Taylor gave birth to Rick and Katherine’s first grandchild, a beautiful baby girl named Raelyn Sofia Hilda Gudmundson on November 25, 2019. Rick is also survived by brother Brian (Janice), sisters Jan, Lori (Glen) and Lisa (Rob), Mother-in-law Betty, Father-in-law George, sisters-in-law Bonnie (Jim), Trish, Diana, Brother-in-law Jeff (Sharon) as well as great-nieces and great-nephews and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rick was predeceased by his father Earl (Les) in 1988, nephew Evan in 2004, and mother Alice (Bonnie) in 2018.

Rickie Alan Cox was born in Regina, SK on July 13, 1954. The family moved to Winnipeg in 1963 and settled in Transcona. Rick graduated from Murdoch Mackay Collegiate in 1973. He worked over the years at Beaver Lumber, Flyer Industries, Bombardier, Cummings Small Engine Repair, Seven Oaks General Hospital and Victoria General Hospital. He and Katherine raised their family on their acreage near Ile Des Chenes and then moved back to Winnipeg in 2012.

Rick was a very passionate Riders fan along with his older brother Brian. They enjoyed watching their games together over the years….especially against the Bombers.

Rick loved tending to his acreage, the well-being of all animals, taking care of his daughters and he loved to fish. We loved to tease him when everyone in the boat was catching except for him and he was always a good sport about it.

Even though Rick battled some health issues over the years he was always more concerned about his family’s welfare and was very protective of those he loved. He loved family gatherings and he had such an infectious laugh that we could never forget. We have faith that he is looking down on us and especially his first grandchild Raelyn, for whom he would be gushing over. Rick, we will love you forever.

In keeping with Rick’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on

Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the E.J. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rick’s name can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
