Obituary for Rick Jansen

RICHARD (RICK) WILLIAM ALLAN JANSEN
July 9, 1951- August 5, 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Rick Jansen on August 5, 2021 at the age of 70 at St. Boniface General Hospital.

He will be forever remembered and loved by his wife of 46 years Linda; his daughters Sandra (Steve) and Crystal (Mike); his especially loved grandchildren Brielle and Matthew. Rick will be fondly remembered by his nephews David, Stefan (Lise) and his niece Tracey (Rogelio) and many other surviving family members.

Rick was predeceased by his parents William and Opal; his sister Patricia; his brother-in-law Louie, his sister-in-law Marilyn and brother-in-law Tom.

Rick grew up in the Norwood Flats and worked at a young age with the family business “Jansen Produce”. He attended Nelson McIntyre Collegiate and pursued his post-secondary studies at Red River College in business management and marketing. He began his sales career working at Sweda Registers and several years later, he pursued an opportunity at ADT Security Systems in commercial sales. Rick had an out-going personality and he made friends wherever he went. Throughout his career, he made many long-time friends from near and far who he kept in contact with even after his retirement. Rick had an admirable work ethic, and his ambitious nature was evident as he often was presented with numerous awards of excellence throughout his career.

Upon retirement, Rick continued his love of travel with his wife Linda. They explored several European countries, Costa Rica, Alaskan cruise as well as others. He also enjoyed spending more time at their cottage at Albert Beach with family and friends. He was an avid Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan and also enjoyed cheering on the Winnipeg Jets. Rick loved dogs and enjoyed visiting with Daisy and Hunter.

Although Rick faced challenges after his spinal injury in 2018 resulting in paraplegia, he persevered and continued with a positive outlook on life. The family would like to thank homecare for their kindness and care the last two years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick’s memory to Manitoba Mutts Dog Rescue or the Lake Winnipeg Foundation.

A celebration of his life will take place the morning of Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.
