Obituary for Rene Louise Gevaert

Rene Gevaert

December 1917 – February 2013


Rene Gevaert passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Tache Nursing home with his family by his side.

He is survived by his two sons George (Shelley) and Ronald (Lelanie), grandchildren Hudson and Liana, and family friend Evelyn Chaput.

Rene was predeceased by his wife Betty and siblings Gus, Agnes, Lorraine and Albert.

Rene was a lifelong resident of St. Boniface. He worked at the CNR shops in Transcona and the main depot for 37 years. He lived a full life outside of work managing his large rooming house in the North end of St. Boniface, which always provided a home for family and local residents. His entertainment was working around his homes on a variety of large and small projects. In his retirement years he was an active dancer at the Norwood and Imperial legions and had the opportunity to travel extensively.

A kind and generous man who will be missed by family and friends.

As a confirmed atheist, cremation has taken place and he has been returned to stardust.

A memorial reception celebrating Rene?s life will be held at the Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald on Thursday, February 21, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

His family would especially like to thank the staff of Tache Centre for the excellent care he received in his final years. They are the kindest and noblest of people.
