Obituary for Rene Guy Romeo Gaudry

In loving memory of Rene Romeo Guy Joseph Gaudry
April 7, 1939 - August 24, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rene Gaudry on Wednesday, August 24, at the Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 83.

He was predeceased by his parents, Delphis and Anna (nee Berard) Gaudry, his brother Greg and sister-in law Emily, sister Lenora and brother-in-law Emile Raymond, sisters Irene and Gloria, brother-in-law Bill Vandermeer, and sons-in-law Michael Schwark and Julio Canto. He will be sadly missed by his sister Leona Vandermeer, his daughter Janet and son-in-law Thomas Pham, daughter Lynda Canto, and son Denis, as well as by his grandchildren, Davina and Vivian Canto. He will also be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Rene grew up in St. Vital, Winnipeg where he attended Norberry School and completed his GED from Glenlawn Collegiate. As a boy, Rene learned to skate very well, and enjoyed skating, bicycling, and playing sports with his friends, including playing football with the St. Vital Mustangs.

He had many different types of jobs throughout his life, including sheet metal work at Versatile Industries, pouring concrete basements and sidewalks, building fences, installing shingles, and acting as DJ for dances. He had a deep love of animals and nature, and there was rarely a time when he didn't have at least one pet. At one time, he even had a pet crow that would follow him home from school. He loved camping and took his family to the lake often.

Rene was a quiet, gentle person with many friends. He loved children and would often tease them by saying outrageous things with a straight face, but a twinkle in his eye, such as watermelons would grow in your stomach if you swallowed the seeds, or potatoes would grow in your ears if you didn't clean them. In later years, he lived with his daughter Lynda and grandchildren, Davina and Vivian. He loved his grand-daughters so much, and enjoyed baby-sitting and watching them play.

Rene will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In keeping with Rene’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Rene may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
