Obituary for Paulette Elaine McConnell

PAULETTE ELAINE MCCONNELL

(nee COOK)

March 21, 1946 – April 4, 2013

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and aunt Paulette Elaine McConnell.

Paulette will be greatly missed by her mother Stella Cook, children Colleen (Curtis Headland), Brendan (Erin O’Brien), and two very special grandchildren Grace and Caden Headland. She also leaves to mourn her sister Connie (Larry Butler); brothers-in law Ray McConnell (Judy) and Brian McConnell (Cathy); sister-in-law Pearl McConnell Passey (Gerry Passey); numerous nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Sam, her father, Paul Cook, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sam and Sarah McConnell.

From an early age, Paulette enjoyed dancing. Her first job was as a dancer on the Red River Jamboree television program. She continued to teach dancing for many years after. She worked as a flight attendant until she and Sam started their family together. She earned her Human Resources degree from the University of Manitoba and worked for the Winnipeg School Division until her retirement in 2009.

Paulette was dedicated to her family and friends. The highlight of her life was her grandchildren, Grace and Caden, whom she cherished with all of her heart. Paulette?s admirable qualities were many. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She had a special talent in making her family members and many treasured friends feel special. Her family will miss how she always prepared the perfect birthday meal for them. She was a trustworthy person who never spoke a negative word about others. Her competitive spirit will be missed during the family?s summers spent at their cottage in Petersfield playing cards and other games. She loved shopping with her mother Stella, her bargain-hunting partner in crime. Throughout her life and illness, she always put the happiness and well being of others before her own. She continued to give and help others even after leaving us by being a donor.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the W.R.H.A. Palliative Care Program for their support and kindness.

In keeping with Paulette’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. Although Paulette did not want a formal memorial service, she has requested that you remember her by spending time with the special people in your life and doing what makes you happy. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON1160, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
