Obituary for Pam Dawn Wilkinson

PAM DAWN WILKINSON

(nee ROBINSON)

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Pam Wilkinson on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg.

Pam is survived by her husband Don of 33 years; daughters Terry Galbraith (Brent Hooper), Irene Knight (Kevin), son Patrick Donaghy (Shannon) of Vancouver; grandchildren Morgan, Melissa, Aaron, Colleen, Andrew, & Holly; as well as, her brother Greg Robinson; uncle Fred Edgeworth (Eve) and aunt Pat Bowey.

She was predeceased by her adoptive parents Ed and Dorothy Robinson and her birth mother Elizabeth Edgeworth and uncle Paul Edgeworth.

She founded the International Grade Horse Association (IGHA) in 1972 and the Manitoba Grade Horse Association (MGHA) in 1975 to bring equality to the grade horse (non-purebred) and show its ability to compete and often win against its purebred counterparts. The Association opened horse shows to include family events and many summer weekends. In competition, it brought new horse and rider combinations together for all levels.

Pam also founded the Canadian Professional Drivers Association (PDA) to bring an awareness of the rights of Canadian professional truck drivers. It accomplished its mandate. Later, a monthly newsletter was published and became very popular amongst drivers and the trucking companies. It created the opportunity to bring all the stakeholders together to solve safety and major issues within the trucking industry. Don and Pam presented to the Canadian Labour Congress in 1996, 2001 and 2003.

We would like to thank Dr. Jeff Sisler of CancerCare Manitoba for his kindness and sense of humour that made us all at ease during a very difficult time. Thank you to the ladies of the Home Care team for their help and consideration. A very special thank you to all the staff at Riverview Health Centre 3E wing for going above and beyond in Pam’s care.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating Pam’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 11: 00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street, Winnipeg, MB.

Flowers are gratefully accepted, as gardening was one of Pam’s hobbies.
