Obituary for OSU Sr. Joan Adams

Sr. Joan Adams OSU

Very peacefully on July 29, 2019 at Actionmarguerite, at the age of 77, Sister Joan was received into the hands of her loving Lord. Sister Joan was accompanied at her bedside by her Ursuline Community: Sr. Joice, Sr. Juliette, Sr. Mary and very dear and faithful friends of the Ursuline Community.

Sr. Joan was born June 29, 1942 in St. Boniface, Manitoba. Joan was predeceased by her parents Maurice and Ernestine ( nee Pritchard) Adams and her two beloved little sisters Anita and Rose-Marie.

Teaching was the love of Joan’s life and she was very effective in the classroom, gifted as a principal and she too was loved. As a dedicated member of her religious community and as Provincial Leader, Joan was a witness of the words “Ut unum sint” ‘That all may be one’. Joan’s unifying spirit emulated “The mission and prayers of Jesus who throughout his life-had but one desire to draw all people into oneness with the Father and one another.”

Sr. Joan was overcome by a crippling and all pervasive illness. She was not able to speak, eat, walk, or to move about. In an amazing and gracious manner Joan was able to accept unbelievable hardships. Throughout this time, she maintained her gracious manner with all those who tended to her many needs. In an unknown but peaceful spirit Joan was able to impart her love and generosity to all who tended to her throughout her trial. Sr. Joan’s very devoted caregivers were many. Her love and gratitude shone through her eyes.

Joan’s community of sisters; Sr. Juliette, Sr. Joice and Sr. Mary recognize the constant and generous loving care given to Joan. No words will ever be adequate to express their gratitude to Joan’s cousin Gail Bauer and childhood friends Mona Scott, Lucille Blanchette and Eveline Châles.

Sr. Joan was forever grateful for the competent dedicated staff at Residence Despins and Actionmarguerite and in gratitude to the Grey Nun Community for their compassionate presence.

Only the Lord’s abiding love will be able to adequately express the Ursuline community’s unspoken gratitude and appreciation.

The funeral liturgy is at 1:30 p.m. on August 2nd, 2019 at 151 Despins Street, St. Boniface MB. Reverend Father Phil Daley will preside at the liturgy celebration.

Interment will follow at a later date in the St. Gerard Parish Cemetery, Bruxelles, MB.
