Obituary for Olive Jean Sutherland

OLIVE JEAN SUTHERLAND

(nee Kristjansson)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Olive Jean Sutherland on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 89 years.

Mother was born in Morden. MB. on November 28, 1922, she started working at age 16 at Mark Ki?s Grocery Store. During the war years she lived in Vancouver, Nanaimo, Vernon and Prince Albert. She married her husband William Sutherland after the war in 1946, and they lived in the Riverview area of Winnipeg since 1950. Whenever mother returned to Morden for a visit, she loved to go down to the coulee.

Olive worked in the Gift Shop at Eaton?s in the late 50?s, and after that worked for Statistics Canada. She joined the Naturalist Society and enjoyed outings with them. She always kept busy knitting, crocheting and making sure the birds were fed. Mother loved to go to the Fort Whyte Centre to see the birds and geese while enjoying a cup of coffee. Mother and father went to Florida for several winters with their son Jim and Ebba.

Recently, she had a stay in the Charleswood Nursing Home and then Riverview Health Center. We would like to thank both nursing homes for their care and attention.

Mother was predeceased by her parents, Louise and Helgie Kristjansson, and her son James Clark. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband William John, son William John Jr., and her sister Marie (Herman) Larke, as well as by numerous relatives and friends.

In keeping with Olive?s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
