Obituary for Murray Mitchnik

Murray Mitchnik
November 24, 1962 – January 19, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Arron Mitchnik on January 19, 2024 at the age of 61 at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Murray was predeceased by his parents Jack and Bernice Mitchnik. He will be remembered by his brothers and sisters Sheldon, Connie (Jerald), Michelle (Shane) and Leslie (Monica) along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Murray was born and raised in Winnipeg and lived in the city throughout his life. As an Inventory Supervisor with Western Inventory Services, he travelled throughout much of Canada, especially in smaller towns, with working trips as far away as Yellowknife. He also spent a lot of his working life in the food service industry at McDonald’s, Arby’s, and various cafeterias.

Murray will be remembered for his love of Star Wars and Star Trek and the original Batman TV series. He was also very fond of going to bingo and attending the casinos at Club Regent and McPhillips Street Station, often picking up his sister Connie for an outing.

Murray had a kind heart and when he was healthy, was always willing to drive someone to an appointment or grocery shopping when needed. While working at Arby’s he would feed his nephew Greg when he had fallen upon hard times.

The family would like to thank Murray’s many caregivers, including his homecare nurses and medical team for their kindness and hard work in caring for him when his health declined.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at E.J. Coutu & Co Funeral Directors at 11 am on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 680 Archibald Street. Interment at St. Boniface cemetery will take place in the spring.
