Obituary for Monique Marie Anne Dufault

Monique Marie Anne Dufault

On December 15th, 2023, after persevering to share her final moments with loved ones, our mom Monique Marie Anne Dufault crossed over to be with her parents Marcelle & Claude, sister Claire, and brothers Gilles and Gabi.

Born in St. Boniface on May 4th, 1954, Monique and her siblings ran the roost of Rue Aulneau while attending Ecoles Marion & Provencher, and eventually R.B. Russell school. She leaves these shared memories to be cherished with her siblings Jeannine, Marc, Colette (Richard), Lorraine (Robert), Francois, Robert (Laura), and Roger (Caroline). As a young woman, mom loved the arts and to her very last day, could spend hours upon hours listening to music, singing at the top of her lungs, and dancing to her heart's content. Her artistic flair coupled with her keen eye for finding gems in the most unexpected places made mom's home and life full of surprises.

Mom worked with St. Boniface Hospital in Health Records for over 26 years, and eventually found herself gifted with the opportunity to help children as a foster parent. For over twenty years, mom provided care and support to children of all ages and backgrounds who were facing adversity and looking for a safe place to lay their heads. Little did they know that while she helped to restore their sense of security, they were restoring her sense of fulfillment and service to her own faith.

All the while, she raised three beautiful children - Derek (Rose), Jeff, and Bryanne (Zubaer). Mom supported us throughout every endeavor; whether it was Air Cadets on Tuesdays, endless performances, or baseball on the weekends, mom never missed a concert or game. She didn't have much, but she found within herself enough love to make ends meet and to never allow us to go without. Her expansive heart lives on through her grandkids, Taiya (11), Maximal (5) and Cassian (9m0s).

A special thank you to those who have walked mom's journey with us despite the challenges: Susie Wipf, her beloved friend of over 25 years; her sisters Colette & Lorraine; children-in-law Zubaer and Rudaba, and her children.

In her final days, mom found peace despite her struggle with dementia. With the utmost care and compassion from the staff first at Villa Aulneau, then Maples PCH, Actionmarguerite St. Boniface, and ultimately at Actionmarguerite St. Vital, mom was finally able to rest and allow herself to be taken care of instead of taking care of everyone else. Thank you from the depths of our hearts to all of the staff who provided her patience, dignity and grace as her brain changed on a day to day basis.

To celebrate Monique's life, we invite you to share your stories and memories with us on January 5th at 11:00 am in the Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street.
