Obituary for Marcella Woollard

MARY MARCELLA WOOLLARD
(née MCOUAT)
September 20, 1922 - April 22, 2021

Marcella, eldest daughter of Walter McOuat and Grace Jackson, was called home in her 99th year. Matriarch of the McOuat Clan, she was predeceased by her parents, her husband Lloyd Woollard, sister Margaret; brothers, Earl, Walter, Donald, Art and Dwight; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Walter), Pattie (Donald) and Sandra (Dwight). She is bereaved by her brothers, sister, and in-laws, Charles, Lila, George, Claudette, Bill, Pat, and Danielle, as well as 132 nieces and nephews.

Cella was born in Winnipeg and lived here for almost 99 years. In her active youth, Marcella won a jitterbug contest with brother Earl, and was an accomplished speedskater, bowler, and curler. During the Second World War, she spent summers working at various golf courses where she became a talented golfer. As an adult she became an international traveller, but always returned home to Winnipeg.

In 1942 Cella joined Safeway where she worked 45 years and met her future husband Lloyd, a co-worker and Second World War veteran. They married in 1971 and lived happily until his death in 1995. During her time at Safeway, Marcella was offered the position of first female Store Manager in Canada, which she gracefully declined.

Marcella retired in 1987 to devote her life to volunteerism. She spent 25 years volunteering at St. Boniface Hospital, two years at the Kidney Foundation, and as a Goldwing Ambassador at Winnipeg International Airport until her second retirement at age 92.

But what Marcella truly devoted her life to was her siblings and her legions of nieces and nephews across the country, all of whom will miss her stories, wisdom, lessons, mischief, and water fights.
Funeral arrangements by E. J. Coutu Funeral Home will follow post-COVID.
