Obituary for Mary Louise Malbranck (Vandekerkhove)

Peacefully, with family by her side, at Meadowood Manor, Mary passed away on October 4th, 2023, at the age of 98.

She was predeceased by her parents Achiel and Valentina (Corneillie) Vandekerkhove; her sisters Julia, Paula, Esther, Irene, and brothers Robert, and Gaston (Sonny). Mary was also predeceased by her two sons George and Jerome. Mary is survived by her brother Hilaire Vandekerkhove and her daughter Barbara Lagimodiere. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Clayton, Kim, Brian, Lori, Debbie, Diana, Darren, Kaley, Lisa, and Alanna.
17 great-grandchildren; Mark, Kelly, Jennifer, Veronica, Ava, Amelia, Michael, Kyle, Jenna, Shannon, Chelsea, Meghan, Hannah, Brock, Spencer, Marco, and Kason. Six great-great-grandchildren; Zoe, Macen, Blair, Louella, Ellaira, and Darius.

Mary was born on December 7th, 1924, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She grew up on the family farm in Ile des Chenes, Manitoba. She married and raised her three children in St. Vital where she resided most of her life.

Mary was a homemaker, seamstress, and a cook, retiring after many years from the La Verendrye Club. Her hobbies included archery shooting, bowling, bingo, and card games. Mary was a hard-working woman and was well known for her great sense of humour.

Mary was a major part of her family’s lives. She loved painting her family’s homes and babysitting her great-grandchildren – Jenna, Shannon, Chelsea, Meghan, Hannah, and Brock.

Mary lived in Meadowood Towers for 16 years and then resided in Meadowood Manor from 2021 until her passing.

We would like to thank the staff of Meadowood Manor for the excellent care they provided my mom/our Nana these past two years.

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private interment will be held at Glenlawn Cemetery.
