Obituary for Mary Douglas Fontaine (Macandrew)

MARY DOUGLAS FONTAINE
(nee MACANDREW)
November 15, 1922 – January 5, 2021

Mary passed away peacefully on January 5, 2021 at Vista Park Lodge.
She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Georges Louis Fontaine in September 2001, son Robert Eugene in November 2011, great-granddaughter Jade Marie in January 1998, her parents Catherine and Charles Macandrew, brother John Macandrew and sister Catherine Gates.
She is survived by her daughter Annette (Gerald Bingham), her two sons Jean (Karen), Georges (Bunny), and daughter-in-law Annette. To complete her close and happy family are 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, and Sharon Fontaine of Steinbach.

Mom nursed in the RCAF during World War Two mostly in Trenton, Ontario where she made many long lasting friends.

In past years, as a volunteer, Mom received Awards of Merit or Honorary Memberships from the Red Cross, Girl Guides of Canada, St. Boniface Norwood Kinette Club, St. Boniface Area Boy Scouts and Creative Retirement of Manitoba.

Mom was a true Scot but always encouraged her family to speak French, the mother tongue of our father.
Mom and Dad enjoyed many trips to France and Scotland to visit relatives as well as cruises with friends.

Family would like to thank the staff at Vista Park Lodge for the wonderful care and companionship Mom received over the last several years.

Cremation has taken place and a Mass and Celebration of a long and happy life will take place at a later time when allowed.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, JDRF.

Golden is the love you share
That time can’t take away
Golden are the memories
That crown this single day.

We will miss you Mom and Grandma
