Obituary for Eveline Leona Châles
EVELINE LEONA CHALES
On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, after a brief illness, Eveline passed away peacefully at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface, at the age of 93 years.
Eveline was predeceased by her parents, Léontine (née Gobeil) and Jean-Baptiste Chale; brothers, Roland and John; sisters, Louise Proulx and Gracia Richard. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Léon (Doris), as well as her devoted and life-long friend Lucille Blanchette, and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Eveline was born in St. Boniface into a good and nurturing family. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy and upon graduation, she entered the teaching order of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus & Mary. There, she remained a faithful member for 24 years, leaving in 1976. During that time she continued her studies and enjoyed 30 years of teaching high school.
Eveline will be remembered as a very caring and responsible person, extremely faithful and devoted to family and friends. She was very generous of her time, talent & person.
In her own quiet and unobtrusive way, she was a natural leader to whom many turned to over the years. She inspired trust and was never self-seeking. She was an excellent teacher, hard-working and expected the best from her students; a good disciplinarian, but much appreciated for her fairness and impartiality.
Retirement gave her even more time and freedom to devote to aging friends and family. It also allowed her to travel extensively with her good friend Lorraine Lariviere.
Grateful thanks for the special care, concern and support shown by all the staff, doctors and pastoral team at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface.

In keeping with Eveline’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street.
