Obituary for Marthe Genéviève Zelia Perry (Rozière)
MARTHE GÉNEVIÈVE ZELIA PERRY
(nee ROZIÈRE)
July 3, 1930 – November 9, 2021
Peacefully with her daughters by her side, Mom leaves to mourn her children: son André and wife Helen, daughter Terry, daughter Linda and husband Mitch, son Joe and wife Karen and son Bill. Also left to mourn her passing are grandchildren: Danielle (Geoff), Christopher, Kenneth, Paul (Jeana), Joseph, Lise (Adam), Justin (Ashley), Aric (Alison) and great-grandchildren: Addison, Kaylee, Kadence, Ariana and Aimee. Marthe also leaves behind sister-in law Gloria Turner, sister-in-law Jacqui Perry, brother-in-law Joe (Cathy) Perry and brother-in-law, Ernie (Darlene) Perry.
Marthe was predeceased by, and has left this earth to join, her husband Gene Perry, parents Jean Baptiste and Berthe Rozière, sisters Thérèse Lamarche and Rolande Garnier and brother André Rozière. She was also predeceased by her brother-in-law Bill (Jim) Perry.
Marthe was born and raised in St. Boniface. She was very proud of her Francophone heritage and upbringing. She and her sisters studied hairdressing and enjoyed working together in various shops in Winnipeg. Mom’s longest employment was with Mario’s where she enjoyed many years. Subsequent to hairdressing, Mom spent several years as an Educational Assistant at H.L. Softley School in Norwood.
Mom’s greatest joy and love was her family. She loved nothing more than to host gatherings, cooking up a storm with her delicious home cooked meals and her famous bakery items. Her butter tarts and the apple pies from her back yard apple tree were legendary. Mom lovingly spent many years providing childcare to her grandchildren. She was a very talented craftsperson. Painting, refinishing furniture, upholstering, were not too daunting for her. Mom was a skilled seamstress sewing most of our clothes while we were growing up. She also assisted her mother-in-law Marianne Perry sewing for Marianne’s drapery business. Mom created beautiful and elaborate petit pointes that now adorn everyone’s home. She was also an avid knitter and again, everyone was blessed with her many beautiful gifts.
Mom and Dad enjoyed many, many summers camping at Blue Lake, Ontario with their children, grandchildren, and extended family. Mom’s last trip was August 2018. Upon Dad’s retirement, Mom and Dad frequented their trailer at Winnipeg Beach where they enjoyed the company of Gene’s mother and sister who also had a place at Wildwood Trailer Park. Mom and Dad also enjoyed winter vacations on many cruise ship adventures.
Our love for Mom is powerful. We will miss her tremendously. But we rest comfortably knowing that she knew how much she was loved and we know how much she loved each of us.
Until we meet again, you will live on in our memories, rest in peace Mom.
Special thank you to the nurses, health care aides, and staff of Golden Links Lodge, who provided Mom with excellent care and provided our family with compassionate support during Mom’s last days. Thank you to Shannon and Home Instead for the care and companionship provided to Mom over the past several months.
Cremation has taken place and a private gathering celebrating Marthe’s life will be planned for spring 2022.
