Obituary for Marlene Mary Chudy (Karpiak)

MARLENE CHUDY
(nee Karpiak)
June 29, 1950 – April 19, 2021

Heaven welcomed a beautiful angel on April 19, 2021 when our beloved wife, mother and ‘Bobbi’ went to be with her Saviour after a short, but courageously fought battle with cancer. Left with broken hearts are her husband of 50 years Buddy, daughters Launey (David) and Kristy (Robert) along with grandchildren Rylan, Hanna, Taylor, Austin and little Wyatt.

Marlene was born and raised in St. Boniface and married the love of her life Buddy, on June 6, 1970. At that time, she was employed at United Grain Growers as a comptometer operator where she worked until giving birth to Launey in 1977. Kristy soon followed in 1979 and Marlene happily stayed at home to raise their daughters while operating a home daycare. She also kept busy during these years serving as the cook for her and Buddy’s outfitting company. Marlene later returned to employment outside the home in 1989 to work as a preschool Educational Assistant and then as a clerk at Drake Pharmacy where she built lifelong relationships with many of her customers. Marlene left Drake Pharmacy in 2004 following the birth of her first grandson Rylan, to care for him when Launey returned to work. Marlene’s grandchildren were the lights of her life and she actively reveled in their lives often hosting them for family dinners and sleepovers and attending their lessons, games, concerts and recitals whenever she possibly could. Marlene also enjoyed spending time in her kitchen, even running her own “Baba’s Perogy” business. Her garden, yard and flower beds were impeccable as was her home. Everything Marlene did, she did it with love and pride and everyone who knew her loved her big heart and sweet soul.

At this time, the family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the amazing staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Ward 6E. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marlene’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or CancerCare Manitoba.

A private celebration of Marlene’s life and interment of her ashes will take place at a later date.
