Obituary for Mario Di Nella

MARIO DI NELLA

Peacefully on Tuesday, November 19th, with his family by his side, Mario Di Nella passed away at Riverview Health Centre after his courageous battle with cancer at the age of 69. He will be extremely missed by his wife of 45 years, Caterina Di Nella; daughter Amalia (Ryan) and, son Robert (Chanel), and grandchildren Connor, Brennan, Isla, and Hayes. He will also be missed by his brother Tony (Sylvia) and sisters Ersilia Ranieri and Marisa, sisters-in-law Marina, Maria, Silvana and Rosemary, brother-in-law Raffaele (Alda) and numerous nieces and nephews as well as several close friends. Mario was predeceased by his parents Tomasso and Amalia, his brothers, Franco, Guido, Gabriele, his sister Maria and brother-in-law Rocco.

Mario was born in Mozzagrogna, Italy on June 3, 1950. With the support of his family, he was fortunate to immigrate to Canada in 1968 to start a new chapter in his life. Mario was a social and active person and had a following of friends everywhere he went. Whether it was at the Reh-Fit Centre, X-Cues, Bar Italia or at the malls, Mario enjoyed the company of many friends. Like most Italians of his generation, he enjoyed working in his garden, making wine and sharing the fruits of his labour with everyone he knew. His love of traveling began in 2008 as Mario and Cathy would travel yearly to hot spots like Mexico and Cuba. He had the opportunity to enjoy cruises, tropical getaways, and many trips to Italy where memories with his family were made. Mario’s dream was to take a vacation with his children and grandchildren. His dream came true this past year when we all travelled to the Dominican Republic together. One of Mario’s proudest accomplishments in life was receiving the title of Nonno. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and the centre of his whole world. He always enjoyed having them over, spending the day before planning for their visit and shopping for their favourite foods. His grandchildren will grow up hearing the many stories of their Nonno and will always have him watch over them. We would like to thank the staff on the E3 ward at Riverview Health Centre for the care they gave our dad over the past 6 weeks and especially grateful for the support they showed our mom while she spent time there. Mass of a Christian Burial celebrating Mario’s life will be held on Thursday, November 28, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue with Father Sam Argenziano presiding. Condolences will commence one hour prior.

Entombment to follow at Holy Angel Mausoleum located Hwy #1 East at Navin Rd. Pallbearers will be Nick and Joe Ranieri, Jeff and Steven Di Nella, Fabrizio, Adriano and Dario Di Nella and Correy Myco. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mario’s name to CancerCare Manitoba or Riverview Health Centre.
