Obituary for Marguerite Sylvie Van Walleghem

Marguerite Van Walleghem

(nee De Cruyenaere)

After a full and wonderful life, Marguerite Van Walleghem, beloved wife of Omer Van Walleghem, passed away at home peacefully on January 21, 2013. Marguerite was born in St. Boniface, July 29, 1918. She attended St. Mary?s Academy, graduating in 1936. Dating in high school, she married Omer in 1938 and on July 27, 2012 they celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary.

Marg and Omer loved socializing with their ?Norwood? group of friends and also had wonderful memories spending summers at Clear Water Bay and Falcon Lake with family and close friends. She and Omer were fortunate in being able to visit many countries throughout the world, and in retirement spent winters in Arizona and California.

Mom volunteered in various capacities such as SBGH gift shop and the St. Ignatius Darjeeling Mission Club and was truly happiest when she was giving of herself and heart to others. She enjoyed sewing and doing crafts such as glass work and paper tole which she generously passed on to her family members. She was a wonderful cook and hostess which she continued until her death. Her regular phone calls to family and friends on birthdays and anniversaries or just to say hello, will forever be appreciated. Marguerite was a woman who lived her faith daily. She was a life long member of St. Ignatius Parish and had an unwavering faith in the Lord as well as a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother.

Predeceased by her parents Alfred and Marie De Cruyenaere, brothers Albert, Mike, Joe, Eddie and sister Irene Howden, Marguerite is survived by her husband Omer, her six children, Fred. (Ailsa Drinnan), Eileen (Ron Engen),Carole (Len Sitter), Marjorie (Tony Guertin Jr.), Kenny, & Deborah (Charlie Guertin), 16 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, as well as her sister and best friend Madeleine De Leeuw, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to their brother Ken for all the loving care and unconditional support he gave Mom over the last years of her life.

The family would also like to extend their appreciation and thanks to Dr. Pravinsagar Mehta for his continuous care and support as well as to the Homecare coordinator Jerry and the staff for their care and kindness these past few years.

A memorial service and celebration of Marguerite?s life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers if friends so desire, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Rest in peace dear wife, mother, and friend.

May God hold you and keep you forever in his loving arms.
