Obituary for Margaretha Johanna Kalkman (Slikker)

MARGARETHA JOHANNA KALKMAN
(nee SLIKKER)
DECEMBER 31, 1930 – JANUARY 15, 2022

Margaretha (Gre) Kalkman, 91, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law & Tante passed away on January 15, 2022.

Mom is survived by her children Christine Van Beveren, Marianne Mueller (Norman) and Kim Trombinski (Valerian); brother Dirk Slikker (Anne), sister Nelly Van Ry and brother Leen Slikker (Hennie); brother-in-law Piet Vlaming; grandchildren Candace Schellenberg (Jason), Tara Hemmerling (Rich), Jessica Loughead (James), Rebecca Van Beveren (Paul), Victoria Loughead (Michael), and Cameron Loughead (Cara), as well as her 12 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Nicolaas in January 2015, as well as her first born daughter, and sister Marie Vlaming.

Gre was born in Ijmuiden, The Netherlands, where she lived till her and dad immigrated in 1953. They soon were followed by mom’s parents and siblings. Mom’s door was always open to friends and family alike. She loved her summers spent at the cottage at White Sands Estates. Mom was an avid nature lover, so many an animal were fed while she was at the cabin. She also enjoyed going to Grand Beach with the grandkids to play bingo at the community club.

Mom loved playing games and in retirement she spent many a day playing cards, Mexican dominos or doing a word search on the ipad.

The family would like to thank the excellent staff at St. Boniface Hospital’s Palliative care unit for their kindness shown to mom during her time with them.

To Mom: How do we say goodbye to someone we have admired, relied on, respected, and loved more than these few words could ever describe. You taught us how to die with strength, dignity, and immeasurable grace, with your strong faith and love for God. Your love gives us peace and we hope that we shine a little of you, through us. We love you and miss you terribly.

Funeral service will be held Friday, January 28, 2022, at 12:00 pm at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Avenue. Proof of double vaccination will be required upon entry. Burial to follow at Green Acres Cemetery, Hwy 1 East at Navin Road at 1:30 p.m those for those that wish to say a final farewell to mom. Vaccine passport is not required here.

Pallbearers will be Valerian Trombinski, Norman Mueller, Cameron Loughead, Rich Hemmerling, Charles Carrington, and Allister Carrington.
