Obituary for Margaret Helen Murphy (O'Laughlin)

MARGARET HELEN MURPHY
(nee O’LAUGHLIN)
January 8, 1923 – November 2, 2020

Margaret Helen Murphy died at the age of 97 the morning of November 2, 2020.

Margaret was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by her parents and brothers; she leaves three daughters, Diane Roussin (Gerry) Barbara Murphy and Jan Murphy (Gilles Ouellette). Blessed with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, she will be deeply missed by those who loved her.

Margaret was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and was a long time member of the CWL and The Children of Mary. She never lost her desire for learning and successfully graduated from university with her BA at the age of 59 having completed more courses than could be counted. She also acquired a Bronze Certificate from Toastmasters International. Her second love was singing. We all knew her favourite songs and she was a proud member of The Bluenose Belles sharing her talents as she went along. In the later years she loved to play bridge. Many miles were travelled to visit grandchildren and all have special memories of when Grandma came to stay.

Many thanks to the nurses and health care workers at Meadowood Manor for their love and care.

Celebrations of Margaret’s life will take place in both Winnipeg and Halifax, at dates to be determined.
