Lorraine Therese Murphy
(Pion)
1928 - 2022

It is with great sadness we announce that on Thursday, March 31, 2022, our beloved mother Lorraine Murphy at the age of 94 passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre with her family by her side. Mom will forever be remembered by her children: Charles (Linda), Dennis (Lucille), Lorne (Jo-Anne), Richard, Michael (Maria), David; grandchildren: Chad (Courtney), Sean (Fiona), Ryan (Hannah), Jesse (Rachel), Sabrina, Nicholas, Bennett (Brentt), Chapin, Schaeffer; great-grandchildren: Quinn and Jude; and by her many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Lorraine was the youngest of 10 siblings and was predeceased by her mother (Marguerite), her father (Arthur), and in 2002 by her husband Charlie of 54 years. Lorraine was born on January 25, 1928 in Winnipeg and lived with her parents in St. Boniface until she married the love of her life, Charlie, on May 1, 1948. Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was generous and passionate about helping others and she welcomed relatives and friends, including the friends of her sons, into her home and made them feel part of the family. She loved to entertain and was well known for her family dinners and Christmas Eve feasts after mid-night mass. Everyone enjoyed her friendship and warmth.

Lorraine entered the workforce as a young woman at the Nutty Club and, after raising her six sons, enjoyed her time working at Eaton’s and a local Fort Rouge pharmacy. Lorraine was a faithful parishioner and dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League at Our Lady of Victory Memorial Church for 60 years. She was a volunteer at Riverview Health Centre for 30 years. Lorraine’s many interests included a love of music, bowling, Belgian bowling, cross-country skiing, walking in nature, the sewing club, socializing with her many friends including “the gang”, and spending time during the summer and winter at the family cottage in Grand Marais.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Chad, Sean, Ryan, Jesse, Nicholas and her nephew Marcel. The funeral will take place at Our Lady of Victory Memorial Church at the corner of Arnold and Osborne on Thursday, April 7. Viewing of the body will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:55 a.m., followed by mass at 11:00 am with Father Eric and Father Art presiding. Reception in the Church Hall will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Riverview Health Centre or the Dementia Society of Winnipeg. Special Thanks to the staff of the 3C unit at Riverview Nursing Home.
