Obituary for Linda Marie Mager

Linda Marie Mager

(nee Alexiuk)

October 23, 1945 – April 11, 2013

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our wife, mother and grandmother “Nana”.

She died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones at Riverview Health Centre, ending a fiercely fought battle with cancer.

Linda leaves behind her husband Philip, sons Philip Jr. (wife Stephanie, children; Riley, Noelle, Brianne and Makenzie), Jeff (wife Eva, children; Julia and Lukas) and Robbie (wife Nicole, children; Ava and Owen).

She is predeceased by her parents Michael Alexiuk and Elizabeth (nee Richard).

Married for 48 years, Linda and Philip raised their three sons, Philip Jr., Jeff and Robbie in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Linda was actively involved in many of her children’s activities, serving as president of the ladies auxillery at Glenlee Community Centre for several years, volunteering at school Bingos and hot dog days.

Linda was always known for keeping an extremely tidy home and for her excellent cooking. She loved to prepare a feast every Sunday for her family. The weekly dinners were important to her and served as a foundation for the family as it grew over the years. Dinnertime was about more than the delicious food Linda took pride in preparing, it was about the stories, laughter and wise-cracks that were shared.

Linda’s world revolved around her immediate family and she treasured every moment she shared with her 8 grandchildren – making them a priority over everything else. Even after a tiring day at work and during her many chemotherapy treatments, Linda found the energy to spoil the grandkids.

Throughout her life, Linda regularly attended church and often visited other parishes, taking in activities like Fall Suppers, bake sales and Sunday morning breakfasts while making many close friends.

At a young age Linda worked at Air Canada, then decided to stay home to raise her sons until 1987 when she re-entered the workforce with her sister Jan Kilborn at West Fair Foods. She loved the interaction with ‘her customers’ and after more than 20 years was unfortunately forced to retire early because of her battle with cancer.

In keeping with Linda?s wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 am at St. Emile Parish, 556 St. Anne?s Road on Monday, April 15, 2013. A luncheon reception will be held at the parish hall immediately following the funeral mass. All in attendance are welcome to join the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Mager Family and Friends In support of Children’s Hospital at the Winnipeg Foundation.

The family of Linda Mager wishes to thank the caring staff at Riverview Health Centre for all their compassion and support.
