Obituary for Larry Claude Steeves

Claude was born and raised in Carnduff, Saskatchewan, attended the University of North Dakota where he studied Education, played football and wrestled. He moved to Winnipeg after graduation from UND. He married Marlene Kovacs in 1964, and they resided between Winnipeg and Carnduff, as Claude juggled teaching junior high school physical education and science, and working on the family farm in Carnduff, SK. He was a proud member of the Canadian champion St. Vital Bulldogs senior football team and a member of the Manitoba sports Hall of fame.

Claude was a very supportive husband and father, who was always very proud of his family.
He loved the family trips to Mexico, Sunday dinners at Gord and Lorrie’s, visits to Wendy and Chuck’s family in Vancouver, and Glen and Alli’s family in New Hampshire and recently Minnesota.

Claude was a man of few words, but those spoken carried value. Not one to shy away from fact checking, he loved to discuss and debate current affairs over coffee with his friends. One would not dare argue a statistic with Claude, he was a wise and positive man. He also became quite a bridge player over the years and enjoyed his afternoon and evening gatherings with his bridge group.

An avid sports fan, he loved to watch any sports on tv, in person and especially watching his children’s activities years ago, and his grandchildren’s activities in more recent years.
He grew to love hockey, and never missed his grandsons’ games whether it be on tv or traveling to see them at arenas near and far.

Claude will be remembered fondly by all of those who were touched by his presence. His sense of humour and sharp wit was well appreciated into his final days, and he passed peacefully with his loving family by his side.
