Obituary for Karl Busch

Karl-Heinz Busch
1934 - 2021

The family announces the peaceful passing of their beloved Karl on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the Riverview Health Centre.

Karl was born in Essen, Germany on October 16, 1934. His adventurous spirit as a young man led him to Canada where he made Winnipeg his home. Coming from Germany his trade was window decorating and design, working in the wonderful windows of Eaton’s and The Hudson Bay Company on Portage Avenue. He had several business ventures, among other things, managing Dickee Dee Ice Cream. ( THE dream job back in the 60's) and furthered his dream by creating Chilly Willy. Then an about face, creating London Property Management.

Karl wore many hats during his lifetime including being a member of the Manitoba Opera Chorus (Tenor), The Bay Christmas Choir, Winnipeg Men’s Chorus and the Winnipeg Seniors Choir. He was also a past member of the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, however, one of his greatest life achievements was his involvement with St. Boniface - St. Vital Rotary Club of which he was a member for over 40 years - he was a proud Rotarian and believed in Service Above Self. For those who knew Karl ..... he loved to laugh and his was the booming type; he always had an opinion but was willing to hear all sides; he was extremely knowledgeable about many things and always welcomed the opportunity to learn something new; he loved his Babe, his family, his family-of-the-heart, a fried potato skillet breakfast and not necessarily in that order!

He leaves to mourn his best friend and companion of 26 years, Mair Livingstone; his daughters Cynthia Busch, Kate Busch, and Nancy Bennett, (Kevin); his grandchildren and their families Ashley Kephart (Kevin and children Shona and Everett); Stevi MacPhail (Duncan and children Sadie and Lochlan), Emma Busch; Amanda Moffat (Fiancé Kurtis Jansen); Jason Moffat. Karl is also remembered by Mair's sons Warren, Martin and Cameron and their families. He also leaves many nieces and nephews in Germany and here in Canada. He was predeceased by his parents Maxwell and Agnes Busch and siblings, Gerda, Rita and Winfried Busch.

The family would like to especially thank Karl's extended family and friends, which were always there for him, and the wonderful care he received from the Palliative Care Team and the Riverview Health Centre staff on 3E.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Karl’s name to the St. Boniface-St. Vital Rotary Club, 181 Kingsway, Winnipeg, R3M 0G8.

Respecting Karl's wishes, there will be no formal service.

and love leaves a memory no one can steal."
