Obituary for Joyce Florence O'Brien

JOYCE FLORENCE O’BRIEN

(nee Ellefson)

1941-2019

Peacefully, at home with Jim by her side, Joyce passed away on Friday, September 8, 2019 after a lengthy illness.

Joyce was predeceased by her son, James and her parents, Dan and Alexandra Ellefson. She is survived by her husband, Jim, daughter, Kathleen; sisters, Aleth, Lynn, Barbara, Sandra, and Judy.

Joyce spent 25 years working for Northern/United Messenger and five years at the family company, Auto Magic of MB. before retiring to their cattle ranch in Inwood, MB. where she spent her last 19 years with Jim, their horses, cattle, dogs and cats, which she loved. One of her greatest enjoyments in life was the years she spent working and officiating with the Manitoba Cycling Association with her son James, daughter Kathleen, and husband Jim.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Stonewall Hospital for making her feel like family and the Gimli Paramedics and RCMP Officer for making Joyce’s passing less stressful.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating Joyce’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street in Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Joyce may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.
