Following the war Margaret and her family emigrated to Canada and Joe followed his one true love and soul mate, arriving in Winnipeg on April 1, 1949. They were married on April 22, 1950 and celebrated nearly 61 years of happiness together until Margaret?s passing on March 18, 2011.

The girls were born in 1954, 1955 and 1961 and as the family grew, many holidays were spent travelling to Scotland, Western Canada and camping in the Whiteshell area. The year of 1975 saw Joe and Margaret purchase a Brereton Lake cottage in the Whiteshell area where the family spent many great summers swimming, canoeing, hiking and trying to beat ?grandpa Joe? at ?challenge ? croquette.

Shortly after Joe arrived in Winnipeg he secured employment with the City of Winnipeg in the Engineering Department as a surveyor. He became Chief of Survey Parties shortly afterward and held that position until the amalgamation of the City of Winnipeg in 1972. He then held the position of Building Accommodator with the Civic Properties Department until his retirement in 1984, The year 1972 also aw Joe play an instrumental role in the formation of the Winnipeg Public Service Officers (WAPSO). He served in many of the executive positions including President of the association.

After his retirement, he and Margaret continued to enjoy their time at the cottage during the summer months and warmer climates in the winter. Hawaii, Mexico, Florida, Texas and Arizona were all visited in the first 10 years. The last 12 years of travel were to Australia, the country Joe had considered emigrating to after the war. Joe and Margaret always enjoyed the climate and people of Australia, especially on the Gold Coast.

In keeping with Joe?s wishes, cremation has taken place and family, friends and neighbours, past and present are invited to join us in a celebration of Joe?s life on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Joe to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
