Obituary for Josef Thierjer

JOSEF THIERJER

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Josef Thierjer on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 84 years.

Josef (Joe) was born in Lovrin, Romania on September 25, 1938 to parents Josef and Anna Thierjer. He is predeceased by his parents and sister Anna.

At the age of 18, he immigrated with his sister to Canada, reuniting with their parents who relocated to Canada after the war. He worked as a custom cabinet maker and was known for creating beautiful, hand-crafted pieces, many which are still owned and cherished by family.

On June 23, 1962, he married Pauline Skoblenuik and had three daughters, Theresa (Kevin), Lisa and Cindy (Vaughan). Mom and Dad were blessed with three grandchildren, Steven, Alex and Jacob.

Dad loved fishing, the Winnipeg Jets, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Heineken beer and hot dogs. Summers meant family vacations. Some notable trips included renting a cabin at Detroit Lakes, road trips to Banff and the first family trip by airplane to Disney World. His motto with holidays, much to Mom's chagrin, was we eat whatever we want. That would explain a few banana splits for breakfast!

Dad (Joe) was known for his great smile and infectious laugh. He put others before himself. He truly lived life to the fullest, finding simple pleasures in taking walks, car rides for ice cream, trips to Grand Beach, setting up the backyard pool each summer and ending the weekends with a BBQ.

As kids, we all remember his infamous blanket rides where he would spin us around in a blanket as we squealed and laughed with him as we yelled, "more Dad, more."

He will be missed and will always be loved.

In keeping with Josef’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Boniface Cemetery.
