Obituary for Sister Joice Carroll Richards OSU

SISTER JOICE RICHARDS OSU
Very peacefully on October 2, 2023, at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface, at the age of 94 Sister Joice was received into the hands of her loving Lord. In her final hours Sr. Joice was entrusted in the care of her “guardian angels from heaven and on earth”.

Sr. Joice was born December 24, 1928, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was predeceased by her parents Cecil Richards and Nora Toohey and her four siblings: Alice (Conradi), Betty (Steve), Elva (Donald) Willard (Sharen).
She will be dearly missed by her loving sister companion Sister Mary DePape and her nieces, nephews, and special friends.

As a dedicated member of the Ursuline Sisters of Tildonk, Sr. Joice (Sr Mary Angela) held several positions of responsibility and leadership. She was a gifted classroom teacher and principal. She loved teaching; teaching was her life and joy. She gave herself totally to the task at hand. Sr. Joice was always a truly gracious and sincere lady.
In Sr. Joice’s own words she wrote, “It is with sincere warm affection and gratitude that I remember the people I taught, worked with, and worked for. The parents who entrusted their children to my care are remembered with special fondness. I regard the people of my acquaintance as contributors to the development of my Christian life and my sense of the meaning of Christian community.” Joice had a deep sense of responsibility as well as generosity that accompanied it. She was a “take charge” person but at the same time she was a good team player with the ability to assess situations objectively.

“Ut unum sint -That all may be one” John 17:21 was truly Joice’s motto. Sr. Joice was a witness of one’s courage and strength to go forth with joy in the mission of St. Angela and Fr. Lambertz to make God known and loved and drawing all things together in and through Jesus Christ.

Sr. Joice would like to be forever remembered for her appreciation of the dedicated compassionate caring staff at Residence Despins and Actionmarguerite St. Boniface and in gratitude to the Grey Nun Community and her special friend Margaret Kirley for their constant presence and caring support. Sr. Joice will not be forgotten for her lively sense of humor coupled with quick wit.

The funeral liturgy will be Friday October 13, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.
Résidence Despins, 151 Despins Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba

Interment will follow at a later date in the St. Gerard Parish Cemetery, Bruxelles, MB.
