Obituary for John Listmayer

John (Joe) Listmayer

March 23, 1925 to December 12, 2014

With deep sadness, the family announces that John (Joe) Listmayer passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014.

Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife Katherine (nee Dyck), his parents, John and Elizabeth; his brother Matthew; his sister Clara, and his brother Fred.

Left to cherish his memory are his siblings Mary (Mike Stevens); Steve; Eva; Annie (Emery Friesen); Beth (Morris Farquhar); Sylvia (Clive Mason), and Barbara; as well as nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to count.

Joe was born in Pusztavam, Hungary but immigrated to Manitoba with his parents as a baby. He grew up on the family farm in Clarkleigh, Manitoba, the second eldest of a large and loving family. On April 5, 1958 he married his dear Katy and they were inseparable until her death in 1995.

Joe loved traditional country music and as a young man he would call square dances at social gatherings. If he wasn’t singing, he was reciting poetry or sharing a good story, right until the end. His career as a rancher gave him real satisfaction, and reminiscing about his favorite horses was a keen pleasure. In the course of his long life, he lived and worked in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, making friends across the west. Few could resist his cheerful, utterly amiable disposition.

Joe dedicated himself to Jehovah God as a young man and he continued in sacred service as a minister for many decades. Even when his health deteriorated, his faith never faltered. The assured promise of a resurrection sustained him, and he absolutely trusted that God held on to him with his “right hand of righteousness”. (Isa. 41:10)

A private memorial service for family and invited friends will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015.
