Obituary for John Fortunato Ermet

John Fortunato Ermet

May 14, 1927 ? May 15, 2013

In the morning of Wednesday May 15th John passed away peacefully while visiting family in Winnipeg.

He will be sadly missed by his four children: daughter Rita (Barry) Inch, grandchildren Michelle and Michael of Anaheim, California, and grandson Craig (Michelle) Gascoigne and three great-grand children of Edmonton, Alberta; daughter Linda (Tom) Wingrove and granddaughter Christy of Winnipeg, Manitoba; son Bob (Jackie) and grandchildren Ryan and Paula of Jasper, Alberta; and son Ted (Anita) and grandsons Dylan and Bradley of Kamloops, British Columbia. John is also survived by one sister, Mary Holzer of Minnesota; and sisters-in-law Phyllis Ermet of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Elsie Esler of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends.

Dad was predeceased by Marion, his loving wife of 56 years; his parents Sam and Mary Ermet; brother Edward; sister Margret Russell; and granddaughter Teri Wingrove.

John and Marion raised their family in St. Vital, Winnipeg and spent summers at their cottage on Malachi Lake. Dad worked for CN Rail for 41 years, retiring as a car supervisor at the age of 57.

During his retirement years John continued to enjoy many of his passions, including, hunting, fishing, and gardening, as well as many memorable summers with the lake community.

After Marion passed away John decided to move to Binscarth, Manitoba where he lived independently for eight years surrounded by what he referred to as ?the best neighbours ever!?

John enjoyed quality time spent with family and friends. Grandpa John made us all feel special in his own unique way. He was incredibly generous and left a lasting impression with everyone.

Dad was especially fond of all animals. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John?s memory to The Winnipeg Humane Society or to a charity of your choice.

In keeping with John?s wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral service celebrating his life will be held on Saturday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernadette Church, 820 Cottonwood Road.

John will be remembered and cherished forever.
