Obituary for Jimmy Lamirande

It is with sadness, we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Jimmy Lamirande at Middlechurch Home on June 16, 2023 at the age of 87 years.

Jimmy was born on November 13, 1935 to Zephirin and Yvonne Lamirande. He is survived by his children, Guy (Eva), Valerie, Michel (Sam) and Deane (Grant). Grandchildren, Jason, Amy, Michael, Olivia, Jeremy, Jordan, and great-grandchildren Nathan and Lilly.

Predeceased by his parents, Zephirin and Yvonne, brothers: Douglas, Maurice, Paul, Leo, Gordon, and sisters: Stella, Valerie, Florence, Theresa, and Josephine.

He will be greatly missed by brothers and sisters; Jeanette, Ross (Lynn), Edward (Leona), Alida (Eugene), Diane, Pauline and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In his teens, Jim worked at Hestic Furs, during his lunch he could be found playing Snooker. He became quite good; some might even have said he was a “Shark”. Jim was later convinced by his cousin George, to work in the mines in B.C. Becoming home sick, after a period of time, Jim moved back to Winnipeg and worked at C.P. Rail. It was at this point where he met Barbara (nee Thibodeau) and started a family.

Jimmy had a great sense of humour and always had a story or two to share. You could often hear Jimmy singing, “Day-O, Day-O Daylight come and we want go home” at BBQ’s in Grande Pointe, many fought for the chance to be paired with Jimmy in horseshoe tournaments or when playing Cribbage.

In keeping with Jimmy's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service and interment will take place at St. Vital Cemetery in August 2023.

Thank you to the staff at Middlechurch Home for their care and compassion.

Family and friends are invited to leave condolences and memories.
