Jean Garrett
March 15, 1923 – May 26,2020

An extraordinary life came to an end when Mom passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at the Grace Hospital, at the age of 97 years.

Mom leaves to cherish her memories, daughter Geraldine Martin, son David Carter (Donna), nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, two great-great granddaughters, two sisters and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Mom was predeceased by husbands, George Carter, Ted Garrett and partner Len Gower, son Larry Carter, infant son Robert Carter, son-in-law Al Martin, six brothers and four sisters.

Mom was born on March 15,1923 to Dorothy and Robert Strong in Winnipeg. Mom grew up in South Transcona and spent most of her life there on Harvard Avenue, Plessis Road, Devonshire House and recently moved to River East Personal Care Home. She first started working as a housekeeper where she met her husband George who she married in 1941. Throughout the years she worked at the Transcona Golf Course and Transcona Curling Club and numerous other jobs including the Health Science Center with her friend Merle.

In her free time Mom loved bowling, bingo and the casino, especially her bus trips to the U.S. casino’s and South Beach. Mom was an avid traveler venturing to many tourist attractions like B.C., Hawaii, Arizona, England and Nova Scotia, and several hotspots in the U.S. and many cruises to the Bahama’s and Hawaii throughout the years. Mom and Len spent 20+ years as snowbirds in Arizona and enjoyed many years at Northland Trailer Park with friends and family.

In keeping with Mom’s wishes, cremation has taken place; a celebration of life will be held when restrictions on public gatherings are lifted.

Rest in peace, we love you Mom.
