Obituary for Jean-Denis Joseph Caron

With sadness, the family announces the peaceful passing of our Dad, Jean-Denis Caron (John) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, on May 30, 2022 at 86 years of age. John was born in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec on Dec 10, 1935. The second youngest of 8 children, John was part of a close and happy family until he was tragically orphaned at age 8.

As a young man, John worked for the Canadian Air Force as a civilian for 5 years in the Yukon. He loved all the adventures he had in the wilderness and appreciated all the opportunities he was given. At age 26 he met his wife Aline in Winnipeg and they started their family (Marc, Rachel and Michelle). Mom predeceased Dad in 2001.

As a self-taught gifted carpenter, he worked many carpentry jobs and also built his family a beautiful cottage at Albert Beach, which they thoroughly enjoyed for many years.

He was an imaginative entrepreneur and together with Aline, he created Concor Industries, a company that made patented core storage systems for the mining industry, and he also built mining camps in the arctic. He really enjoyed working in winter “up north” and he would tell stories of flying in Hercules transports, watching wild life, and driving on ice roads. He went on to be very successful, eventually selling the business and retiring.

When not working in his garage, John could be found sitting happily in the sun, observing nature, helping his grandchildren, or a neighbour in need. In later years John was fond of telling stories about his childhood: making maple syrup, picking berries with his family and driving the neighbours' tractors on their farms. It was always a special time when he would visit his sisters, brother, nieces and nephews in Quebec.

He will be greatly missed by his children, Marc (Val), Rachel (John), Michelle (Bryan), his grandchildren Brandon and Melanie, and all his Quebec family, and so many friends and neighbours.

Special thanks and gratitude to the HemoDialysis Unit of St. Boniface Hospital for the amazing care Dad received over the past four years. And much appreciation to 6E Internal Medicine for making the last several weeks for Dad peaceful.

Dad, you are now FREE to be wild again! Thank you for all your lessons… With much love .

Dad's service will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Parish of St. Bernadette (820 Cottonwood Rd) at 11 a.m.. We welcome you to join the family for lunch after the service.

Private family internment to follow.
