Obituary for James Joseph Miterek

On July 19, 2022 our family lost a great man, to us, he was Pops! A much-loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. To his friends he was simply “Jimmy the cop!”

Together with his much-loved wife, Stella, they mourned the loss of two of their children, daughter, Debbie and son, James.

Together they lived on for the joy they found in their three daughters, nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His daughters, Beverley (Doug), Brenda and Diane will miss him dearly.

James joined the City of St. Boniface Police Force in 1952 and LIVED every moment of his career. He loved his job, and his fellow officers became part of our family.

James cherished memories of growing up in Beausejour and loved to take a ride on a sunny afternoon to visit his mom and enjoy a burger and Pepsi at Vicki’s before returning home.

Falcon Lake was his dream and finally after many years of camping and checking out the bear situation together with his five children, he bought his dream cottage and his little boat. He was the happiest man!

To those who remember the guy with the Boler trailer, laughing loudly to the tune of Elvira we can now point a finger and say, “That was our Dad.”

Dad left us gently and peacefully and we will miss him dearly.

To honour Jim and to see what all the hype is about – Take your family to the Whiteshell and spend a day in God’s country… He would love to see you there!

Many heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Holy Family nursing home, who gave Dad a wonderful send off. He loved you all.

A private family burial will take place at a later date.

“If you haven’t got a penny
a ha’penny will do.
If you haven’t got a ha’penny
Then God bless you!”
