Obituary for Emile Isidore De Gagne

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of our father Emile Isidore DeGagne, 79 years old, of Winnipeg, MB on April 8, 2023 after a brief illness. He was greatly missed by his wife Joan of nearly 59 years, until her passing just a few hours later on April 9, 2023.

Emile was predeceased by his children Robert (1968), Gerald (1970) and Patricia (2020), as well as his 2 older brothers Arthur and Alphonse in 2021. He leaves behind his 2 daughters Cindy (Darren), Amanda (Morley) and son Paul (Monique), his grand children and great grandchild. In addition, he will be missed by his siblings Lucie, Florence, Yvette, Anita and Rene.

Emile was initially raised in La Broquerie until the age of 5, when his father moved the family to St. Boniface in Winnipeg, MB. He met the love of his life Joan through mutual friends, they were married July 4, 1964 and began their lifelong adventure together.

He held several jobs over the years, including bus driver (Winnipeg Transit & school), operating a gas station and restaurant with his wife and family, apartment building landlord and all around jack of all trades. There wasn’t much he wasn’t able to build or fix himself, fixing and selling houses and vehicles, doing what was needed to provide for his family.

Dad and Mom retired out at the family cabin at Betula Lake, where they loved hosting family and friends often. After a few years, they moved to Beausejour where they lived for several years until finally returning to Winnipeg for their final years. They enjoyed spending the winters in Texas, Arizona and Mexico, meeting new people and forging new friendships that lasted a lifetime.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.

We will miss you Dad, rest in peace.
