Obituary for Irene Marie Marchand (Pineau)

Irene Marie Marchand
July 10, 1927 – May 31, 2023

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Irene Marchand (nee Pineau), our loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother, on May 31, 2023. She was a remarkable woman, known for her compassion, strength and unwavering love for her family and friends.

Mom was born on July 10, 1927, in Toutes Aides, MB. to proud parents René and Marie (Phillipot) Pineau sharing wonderful memories with her brothers Alfred and Marcel. She moved to Winnipeg and studied nursing at St. Boniface Hospital. After graduation, she worked at the St. Boniface Clinic where she met our Dad, Ernie. They married in 1953 and shared a beautiful journey together for 59 years.

Mom and Dad built a home in Windsor Park where for 40 years they raised their five children and formed lifelong friendships with their wonderful neighbours. Mom was an amazing host, cook and gardener and their home became a gathering place filled with warmth, good food and laughter for all. She had an impeccable sense of style and loved to shop for beautiful clothes, always appearing effortlessly elegant. Mom and Dad later moved to Meadowood Garden where they added many new friendships. In 2020, Mom moved to ActionMarguerite St. Vital.

Mom joined our Dad in running Marchand Agencies for many years until her retirement. Together they shared a love of travel, enjoying trips to Tahiti, Ireland, France, Hawaii, Florida, Palm Springs, Texas, Arizona, Cuba and Mexico, often with friends and family.

Together, Mom and Dad instilled in their children the importance of cherishing and prioritizing family. Her greatest joy in life was being a Grandmother. She embraced her role with endless love, making each of her ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren feel cherished and important. Her love and guidance were instrumental in shaping their lives, and her endless supply of cookies, muffins and personalized sandwiches could always be counted on.

Mom will be deeply missed by her children and their families: Ray and Pat, Ed, Dolores and
Dave Wilkie, Denis, daughter-in-law Joanne, grandchildren Christine (Richard), David (Helen),
Lisa (Rob), Joe (Neewa), Chris (Kaylee), Nicole, Ryan (Taylor), Julia (Miguel), Amy, Marika (Rafael), great-grandchildren Gavin, Nikolas, Thomas, Wesley and was so looking forward to welcoming her next great-grandchild in August. Irene was predeceased by her husband Ernie in 2012 and her son Claude in 2020. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Annette Coates and Madeleine Pineau, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends whose lives she touched with compassion and grace.

Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at ActionMarguerite St. Vital for their exceptional care and support during Mom’s final years and especially her final days.

Mom’s memory will be treasured and her legacy of love and family values will continue to resonate in our hearts. As we bid Mom goodbye, we’ll remember her unwavering spirit, her love of white wine with lots of ice and a splash of Club Soda and her unyielding belief in the power of family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancercare Manitoba Foundation or The Heart and Stroke Foundation Manitoba.
